A huge number of people are now seeking to regain a connection with wild landscapes and nature. With the urban sprawl, lesser people are now connected with the land and natural ambiances.

People in cities now have many reasons to escape from their adulterated environments to visit and explore the great outdoors:  to do some physical exercise, get some fresh air, get closer to nature; to enjoy the scenery, hunting, and fishing…the list goes on. ‘The outdoors’ refers to all those places where people feel they can achieve a special feeling of being ‘away from it all’. 

Being in natural environment and landscape offers particular qualities and benefits for people. It is vital that designers and architects work to use the available land to maintain a good balance between the qualities and special value of the outdoors which offer such benefits to people. 

It is important to create and maintain opportunities for people to enjoy and understand nature. Be it a small park in a residential colony or a small garden in-house, creating a soothing environment requires skill and know how not just about the types of plants but also the various landscaping principles such as rhythm, balance, proportion, and scale. With a harmonious blend of knowledge and aesthetics, even small open spaces can be recreational getaways in our daily life.
